The current enrolment at our school is now 270 and includes students from junior kindergarten to grade 8. At Jack Callaghan school we strive to excel in academic achievement, the arts and athletics.  We value the whole child and with the support of our community strive to help our students to become good global citizens by nurturing strong character traits and positive citizenship.  We have taken a responsibility for guardianship of the earth and make an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and help others to do the same. Jack Callaghan has been given Gold Ecoschool certification from Ontario Ecoschools. We are one of six schools in the province to attain gold status. We encourage our students to interact in a productive caring manner and to treat themselves and each other with respect.

Jack Callaghan school offers productions in the arts, and instrumental music class in drumming clubs for playing the flute, and dance. We participate in altruistic ventures supporting cancer research with the Terry Fox run each year.

Athletic opportunities such as cross country, volleyball, basketball, skipping, soccer and track and field are offered at the school. We are very fortunate to have the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail running right past the back of our school.  We have taken on the stewardship of a section of the trail and students have been engaged in planting trees and creating and installing bird houses with the help of our community partners at the Kawartha trail. Students can go for science and fitness walks and we had an opportunity to snowshoe on the trail last winter. We have a healthy character education program and pride ourselves as being “The Golden Rule School” striving to treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated.

The staff at Jack Callaghan form a cohesive, collegial and professional team with the best interests of the students at the forefront of all our endeavors.  Teachers take a careful look at our test scores and move to continually improve and incorporate high yield teaching strategies to accommodate the needs of all our learners.  We work together as a team for our students in Professional Learning Communities engaging in professional discourse and developing targeted strategies for improvement in academics for our students.
