About

At Jack Callaghan Public School (JCPS), we strive to excel in academic achievement, the arts, and athletics. The current enrolment at our school is now approximately 325 and includes students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. We value the whole child and with the support of our community, we strive to help our students to become good global citizens by nurturing strong character traits and positive citizenship. We have taken a responsibility for guardianship of the earth and make an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and help others to do the same. Teachers at JCPS provide outdoor educational opportunities to allow students to interact with our beautiful yard and take our learning outside. We encourage our students to interact in a productive caring manner and to treat themselves and each other with respect.

JCPS students share their work in the arts in assemblies and school gatherings throughout the year. We participate in altruistic ventures, supporting cancer research with the Terry Fox run each year. Robotics, coding, and MakerSpace have become an integral part of learning in the junior and intermediate classrooms. We continue to be part of the TLDSB 1:1 technology program for our Grade 7 and 8 students.

Athletic opportunities, such as cross country, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and track and field are offered at the school. We are very fortunate to have the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail running right past the back of our school.

We have a strong Core French program for Grades 4 to 8, where students are taught basic conversational French skills to use in realistic life experiences, such as in retail stores and restaurants through a variety of hands-on approaches.

The staff at JCPS form a cohesive, collegial, and professional team with the best interests of the students at the forefront of all our endeavors. Teachers take a careful look at our continual assessments and move to continually improve and incorporate high yield teaching strategies to accommodate the needs of all our learners. We work together as a team for our students in professional learning communities engaging in professional discourse and developing targeted strategies for improvement in academics for our students. Educators collectively focus on a growth mindset and share this perspective with their students to help all students achieve their potential.

JCPS: “Today’s learners, tomorrow’s leaders!”

Mission statement

At JCPS, we foster creative problem solving, a passion for learning, resiliency, equity, and competence in order to prepare our learners for tomorrow’s world. We want our students to feel empowered with a sense of belonging within our school community. We acknowledge and recognize the diversity of our students and aspire for them to reach their full potential.
